What is Sensory Integration?

0 min read

The nervous system sends sensory input to the brain, where it all needs to be processed, organized, and responded to appropriately. If any part of that sequence doesnโ€™t happen correctly, then it is known as sensory processing disorder or sensory integration disorder.

Occupational therapists can use repeated exposure to stimuli in a structured way so that the nervous system learns how to process and respond to them. This type of therapy is often used as part of a sensory diet strategy.
